Man falls in well: Army, police launches rescue operation

Anantnag, Feb 05
A middle aged man reportedly fell into an open well at Hanjipora area of Shopian Pulwama in south Kashmir.
Sources told News Agency of Kashmir that the middle aged man identified as Ali Mohammad Shah son of Asan Shah a resident of Kulgam fell into an abounded well when he was passing by it. Sources said adding people of the area informed police after they heard cries.
Police tried to rescue the man but could not evacuate him, sources added. Later police called the Army and a joint rescue operation was launched to drag the man out of the well said to be about forty five feet deep.
Sub Divisional Magistrate, when contacted told NAK that due to dim light it was very hectic to get him out of well, he said adding that he might have died as there was no response from the well.
He said a trooper of 62 RR went down upto 50 feet but could not locate the body. “The trooper fell unconscious after he went 50 feet deep into the well”, he said. The jawan was however hospitalized.
