| Amarnath Yatra:SC slams Board, govt for not providing basic facilities to pilgrims | | | agencies
New Delhi, Aug 13: Slamming the Amarnath Shrine Board and the Jammu and Kashmir government for not providing the minimum basic facilities to the pilgrims, the Supreme Court today directed them to file a report pertaining to the same within 3 weeks. Expressing displeasure over the way the pilgrims are not being provided the minimum basic facilities, a division bench of the Apex Court said, "You (Amarnath Shrine Board and J&K Govt) do some constructive work. We are not interested to know what you have done in the past in this regard."
The Apex Court has also asked them to start their work before the snowfall in the state.
The J&K government alongwith the Amarnath Shrine Board earlier have sought more time to file their reply in this regard. After hearing the case, the Court has fixed the matter for further hearing till September 10. Amarnath yatra is an annual pilgrimage made to the (Amarnath) cave by lakhs of Hindu devotees on challenging mountainous terrain in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Amarnath cave is a famous shrine in Hinduism, dedicated to Lord Shiva. |
