Mufti sounds bugle, makes intentions clear | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 13: Before Assembly elections PDP has made its intentions clear: wants to go alone and aim for single largest party. Party patron and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohmmad Sayeed on eve of foundation day celebration of party at Jammu questioned the role of Congress for not asserting it itself on 73rd and 74th Constitutional amendments, aimed at strengthening grass root democracy, which is being championed by the Congress. It's an important demand of the Congress and by remaining silent on this issue the party is doing more harm to it on two accounts: being perceived as playing a role of second fiddle and working against the interest of the Jammu region. Mufti has sensed it and by staging an impressive rally, he has managed to establish the point that hostility towards party in this region is over. The party has know quite clear that the route to power lies through Jammu. PDP, which had polled more votes than the NC in the last Assembly elections, believes that it can improve on it in the next Assembly elections. It would be straight fight in Kashmir region and party is galvanizing itself to take on NC there, where it has already established itself as a credible alternative. It's in Jammu region that party is throwing all its weight it could manage to make dent. To do so party knows that it should act in a manner that it doesn't look like a sister concern of Congress. It's for this reason that party has now started knocking Congress also, its earlier coalition partner and parent organization of both Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti. By striking chord in Jammu region, Mufti constantly reminds people and make it's a point to mention in his public rally that he had successfully contested from RS Pura. By doing so Mufti is trying to assert that PDP is not just Kashmir centric party but has pan-J&K vision and would try to give equal treatment to all the three regions. In Jammu region, going by activities of PDP, it would try to take on Cong and would try to eat its share of votes. Mufti has made this assertion right through the midway of the present Government and it should be an alarm more particularly to Congress. |
