JAMMU, Aug 13: In yet another ceasefire violation in a week, Pakistan today again fired small arms at forward Indian post in Arnia Sub-Sector of this winter capital ahead of Independence Day celebrations, official sources said here today.
"Pakistan troops this afternoon fired small arms at forward Pindi post in Arnia Sub-Sector," official sources here told reporters adding that the firing started at around 12 noon, which lasted for about an hour.
"The BSF also retaliated," they said and added that no incident of any injury and damage to any property was reported.
Pakistan on August 11 fired heavily at four Indian posts in which one BSF personnel was injured.
Pakistan on the night of August 6 also targeted BSF's Border outpost (BOP) of Pansar along the International Border (IB) in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district resulting in injuries to two BSF jawans.
On August 6, Pakistan troops had opened indiscriminate firing on the forward posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Shahpur Kerni forward belt of Poonch sector and it continued intermittently for few hours as Army troops also retailated. On August 5, Pakistan Rangers fired on Indian BOPs in Kote Kuba area along IB in RS Pura sector in Jammu district thereby violating ceasefire between India and Pakistan applicable since 2003.
There has been an increase in ceasefire violations along the Indo-Pak border after the detection of a Pakistani tunnel in the Indian territory in Samba forward belt on July 28 and a subsequent protest lodged by the BSF over it with Pakistan Rangers on July 31.
A similar situation had developed in Jammu and Kashmir in the month of June this year in Poonch sector along the LoC when Pakistan violated the ceasefire five times by opening heavy small arms firing and rocket attacks on Indian posts in Poonch sector in which two jawans were killed and four injured.
There were five ceasefire violations between June 11 to June 16 this year along the LoC in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
Finally, the Brigade Commanders flag meeting was held on June 23, 2012 at Chakan-Da-Bagh LoC point in Poonch sector to bring a halt to the Pakistan firing and peace along the border line and resumption of the cross-border trade and travel between PoK and Jammu and Kashmir.
Nearly, 22 ceasefire violations have taken place this year followed by 51 cases in 2011, 44 cases of ceasefire violations along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir were registered in 2010 and 28 were in 2009.
