Antony spoke the truth but the question is…
Separatists' Reaction

Jammu, Aug 16: It was perhaps for the first time after many years that the Government of India mustered courage and spoke the truth about Jammu & Kashmir. The case in point is the Defence Minister AK Antony's August 13 Parliament statement on the status of Pakistan-occupied-Jammu & Kashmir (POJK). "A part of the territory of the State (Jammu & Kashmir) is under illegal and forcible occupation of Pakistan. The issue that remains to be resolved is the vacation by Pakistan of the area under its illegal occupation," he said. On February 22, 1994, the Indian Parliament had unanimously adopted a resolution on Jammu & Kashmir, POJK and Pakistan and mandated the Government of India to retrieve all the Jammu & Kashmir territories which Pakistan had annexed after waging war. It is matter of great satisfaction that the Defence Minister called the Pakistani bluff by putting the Kashmir issue in right perspective. It is, however, extremely doubtful if the Union Government will take necessary steps aimed at making Pakistan to vacate the aggression. It is so weak and meek. Similar is the condition of the opposition parties, including the BJP. The BJP's Pakistan policy is no different from that the Congress. Both the parties sail in the same boat.
Notwithstanding the fact that the Union Government is unlikely to retrieve POJK, including the strategic Gilgit-Baltistan, the Defence Minister's statement did upset Kashmiri separatists like Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. Stung by the Defence Minister's candid statement on Jammu & Kashmir both the fanatics reacted very sharply. Geelani on Tuesday dubbed Antony as a "frustrated dictator" and said that "all democratic claims made by New Delhi are baseless" and that the "country (India) is actually a despotic State that believes in forcible suppression of other nations". He did not utter a word against Pakistan. On the contrary, he defended Pakistan saying "while New Delhi has occupied Kashmir against the will of the people, same cannot be said about Pakistan because the country (Pakistan) has always supported implementation of UN resolutions". He even went to the extent of saying that the "entire State of Jammu & Kashmir, including its areas under the occupation of Pakistan, is a disputed region". But it was expected of him. This has been his line all through. It is a different story that the authorities in the State as well as New Delhi have never ever taken any action against him and others of his ilk who pour venom on India on a daily basis.
The attitude of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was no different from that of Geelani. Criticizing Antony for his statement on POJK, he said Jammu and Kashmir was a dispute that needed to be resolved" "As per the August 14, 1947 status of the State, the entire Jammu and Kashmir is a dispute and it is to be resolved. The delay in the resolution will affect peace and stability in the region and also the friendly relations between India and Pakistan," he, in fact, said. He also accused New Delhi of playing a double game. "On one side, New Delhi is talking about resolving all the issue with Pakistan and on the other hand, the Indian Ministers give baseless statements," he said.
All this only serve to demonstrate the unwillingness on the part of these Kashmiri extremists or the ardent believers in the concept of two-nation to see reason and behave. Let them say whatever they want to say, but the fact remains that Jammu & Kashmir became part of the Union on October 26, 1947 as per the law on the subject. Even the UN resolutions acknowledge that Pakistan is an aggressor and ask it to vacate the aggression so that the Indian forces are deployed in the vacated areas to maintain law and order.
