Jammu, Aug 16: In the 8th ceasefire violation, Pakistani Rangers reportedly opened fire in R S Pura Sector along the International Border in Jammu today late evening, sources said adding that a Border Security Force personnel was killed in the Pak firing.
Unprovoked firing by Pakistan rangers started at around 7.30pm and was on intermittently, the officer said, adding that BSF troops guarding the borderline replied back. They said that Pakistan started firing at around 1930 hrs adding, ''BSF also retaliated. One BSF jawan, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, got seriously injured and succumbed later."
"A jawan was also injured in cross-border firing on August 11 in Arnia Sub-Sector, sources recalled.
Pertinent to mention that India today has lodged a strong protest with Pakistan over the ceasefire violation along the Line of Control in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
"We have lodged a strong protest over the firing on Indian forward post and ceasefire violation in Krishna Ghati belt of Poonch sector with Pakistan counterparts through hotline today," said a senior Army officer.
Pakistan troops fired on Indian posts in Krisha Ghati belt of Poonch sector around Wednesday night as India celebrated its Independence day and continued intermittently till Thursday morning.
Pakistan Rangers also targetted Indian forward post along the Indo-Pak border in Pansar Border Out Post (BOP) of Samba sector on late Wednesday afternoon.
The two firing incidents and ceasefire violations by Pakistan came barely hours after greeting and presenting sweets to the BSF troops and Army on India's 66 Independence day by them on IB and LoC on Wednesday.
There have been 8 ceasefire violations and firing incidents since past 10 days.
There has been an increase in ceasefire violations along the Indo-Pak border after the detection of a Pakistani tunnel in the Indian territory in Samba forward belt on July 28 and a subsequent protest lodged by the BSF over it with Pakistan Rangers on July 31.
