Not only separatists but JK Bank also names Anantnag as 'Islamabad' | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 16: The J&K Bank which is the banker to State Government has been in controversy for a long time now for adopting its pro-separatists policies. The Bank which drew a flak earlier for publishing separate Calendars one for Kashmir region and another for Jammu region as the common calendar which the Bank used to publish earlier was not acceptable to a lobby of fundamentalists in Kashmir Valley, has now to please the separatists also joined them in changing the historic names of towns and cities in Kashmir Valley. This has not happened for the first time but has been done many times in past two decades of militancy. Despite the widespread public resentment in Ladakh and Jammu region the Bank has stick to pro fundamentalist attitude in Valley. One of the glaring examples in this regard is that the JK Bank in its official communication has described the historic Anantnag district as Islamabad. Two days back the Bank in its handout issued from its media office at summer Capital has named Anantnag as Islamabad knowing fully that Anantnag is the historic name given to the district and in all official records it is written like that. But the Bank while giving a scant respect to the same has named Anantnag as Islamabad in a official handout which was issued in connection of inauguration of an ATM at its Sagam Branch on Tuesday. And the handout of the Bank read that an ATM was inaugurated at Sagam in ‘Islamabad’ district. Though the press note was circulated to media and many Srinagar based papers may have allowed to go the word as it was while others changed it. But what was surprising the senior officers of the Bank had attended the functions which among others included Zonal Head Kashmir (South) Mushtaq Ahmed Mir who inaugurated it in presence of cluster head Zaffar Ahmed Makdoomi. This deliberate action by the Bank which under a game plan is trying to change the historical names of Cities and towns in Kashmir to suit the interests of separatists has generated a lot of public resentment. The peace loving and secular people of State while criticizing the Bank's role alleged that, it seems that Bank was furthering the agenda of separatists in the State. The nationalist forces in the State while taking a serious exception to the JK Bank action said that this has hurt their sentiments as a Government organization the Bank was not supposed to change the name. The leaders of these organizations have also urged the Chief Minister to explain why the Bank has written the name of Anantnag as Islamabad and why the Government has failed to initiate action against the officials responsible for the same. They said the Bank's action has put the secular credentials of the offices at the helm of officers in doubt and the people want strict action against those officials who have deliberately tried to create a new controversy by writing Anantnag as Islamabad. They said when this will be the role of a Government organization itself how can it claim to restore the pluralistic character in Valley. |
