BSF man dies of injuries in Pak shelling, another ceasefire violation | | | Early Times Report Jammu, NEW DELHI, Aug 17 : A BSF Jawan injured in shelling from the Pakistan's side last night succumbed to his injuries and there was no let up in ceasefire violation with its troops opening unprovoked firing on Indian posts in Jammu and Kashmir today-the 11th incident in 13 days. BSF, meanwhile, said Pakistan Rangers are firing on Indian troops from weapons, which are usually possessed by their Army and this is resulting in injuries for its troopers guarding the border. Chander Rai, a jawan of 135 Battalion of BSF guarding the Abdullian Border Out Post (BoP) who was injured in mortar shelling and firing by Pakistan on International Border (IB) in R S Pura border belt last night, succumbed to injuries at midnight. "There was heavy cross-border small arms firing on Indian posts along the IB in Abdullian and Korotona Border Out Posts from Pakistan in R S pura sub-sector (in Jammu district) this morning around 0730 hours", a senior BSF official said. Pakistani Rangers opened heavy and unprovoked firing, he said, adding BSF troops, guarding the border took positions and effectively fired back. With this incident, Pakistan has violated the ceasefire 11 times in the past 13 days along the IB and Line of Control (LoC) in J and K. "I think the firing from Pakistani side is being done from weapons that are usually possessed and used by the Pakistan Army," BSF chief U K Bansal said on the sidelines of an event in New Delhi. He called the repeated instances of ceasefire violation along the Indo-Pak border as "unfortunate" and added that BSF has the right to retailate. Bansal said he has directed his troops to "show restraint without compromising their mandate". Bansal, when asked about the use of sniper weapons which can be fired effectively from a long distance, said it was not a concern for them anymore as the Pakistani side has been doing it for sometime. He said he has asked his men to take appropriate steps to counter this. Pakistan Rangers fired mortar shells and later opened heavy firing on Indian post of Abdullian in R S Pura sub-sector of Jammu district around 1940 hours last night and it came to a halt around 2350 hours. There were three ceasefire violations by Pakistan in the past 12 hours in the R S Pura sector. |
