ICCR's horizon series showcases singing of Salathia brothers

JAMMU, Aug 17: The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India showcased the unique Dogri singing programme of Salathia Brothers under its fortnightly event Horizon Series at K L Sehgal Hall of Abhinav Theatre Complex, Jammu.Balwant Thakur the Regional Director of ICCR in his welcome address said that ICCR started its fortnightly programme 'Horizon series in Jammu last month with the successful Geetru performance by Romalo Ram and his group and today yet another unique Dogri singing style evolved by Salathia brothers is being presented with the motive to showcase promising talents of Jammu in the field of music dance and drama. He said that the prime mandate of the council is to bring nations together through cultural initiatives and for that ICCR sponsors Indian cultural troupes, scholars abroad and brings the best of the International performances to India. Today's programme started with Padma Sachdev's 'Aus Dogreaan Akhneaan Shaane Kane, Asen Jittiyan Jangaan Ghamsaane Kanne' which mesmerized everyone in the audience with the powerful singing of Salathia Brothers. Raman Salathia and his group through their constant practice of last fifteen years have established a unique style of Dogri group singing. They sing in a group of four supported by Rakesh Anand on flute who is yet another great master of the field and enjoys the credit of taking Dogri flute style to International heights. The lead singer Raman Salathia was supported by Rakesh Salathia, Nirbhay Salathia, and Vishal Gupta. Those who accompanied the singers were also the masters of their respective instruments including Rakesh Anand (Flute), Darbari lal (Dholak), Sahil Jasotra (Tabla) and Vicky (Synthesizer). The singing programme reached to a crescendo when the group of singers sang Dr Anil Kumar' s ' Naar Dana Kane Dhaniya Paya, Marchan Paiyan Chaar , Chatni Timbru Di'.Another noteworthy feature of the programme was the wonderful anchoring done by yet another versatile presenter Praveen Sharma.
