| Marked Indian presence in world; SMVDU lecture | | | KATRA, FEBRUARY 6 A lecture on “Globalization of Financial Reporting & the Way Forward” was today delivered by a top executive of corporate sector, Mr Abbas Ali Mirza in the College of Management, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. Quoting various instances from the global arena, Mirza stressed on the need for high value system amongst the corporate sector and said Indians have got strong value system and that is the reason they gain respect wherever they go. He gave various real life examples stating why Indians should be proud of themselves. 38% of doctors in USA are Indians, 12% scientists in USA are Indians, 36% of NASA scientists are Indians, the third richest man in the world is an Indian, and Indians are occupying various top positions in Multi-National Corporations and so on. World history facts also speak in favour of India as the cradle of the human race like invention of number system, zero, establishment of first ever University in Takshila in 700BC, Sanskrit being the most suitable language for computer software etc. He explained globalization of Financial Reporting and adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) by corporate sector. More than 8000 listed companies are using IFRS in more than 100 countries. 200 of the Fortune 500 conglomerates use IFRS. The session ended with a series of questions for the students whereby Shalika Manhas, student of MBA won the prize. |
