NC an epitome of opportunism: Manhas | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 18: National Conference is an epitome of opportunism and is responsible for introducing in state politics a culture of aligning itself with any political party that comes to power at the centre. The present Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was a minister in the BJP-led NDA government under Atal Behari Vajpayee and soon after that when NDA lost the election, it jumped into the lap of Sonia Gandhi in order to grab a ministry for Farooq Abdullah in the UPA Cabinet. Stating this in a press conference, BJP State President Shamsher Singh Manhas said that NC leadership has no moral right to pass any comments on BJP which is a party of principles and ideology whereas the history of NC clearly indicates that right from the days of Sheikh Abdullah, the party has been fooling the people in the name of plebiscite, autonomy etc. but not ready to give up power even when snubbed by the Central government on both these issues. Manhas asked Omar Abdullah to clear his stand on several provocative issues raised by him from time to time instead of changing his stand every now and then. He reminded the chief minister that while in his independence address in 2011 he had vowed to get the AFSPA immediately revoked, in his independence address of 2012 he has himself conceded that AFSPA cannot go for the time being. On the issue of Amarnath Yatra also Chief Minister and his followers have been giving provocative statements including "Ek Inch Zameen Nahi Denge" during the 2008 Amarnath agitation. All these statements / utterances are the clear indicators of the fact that the NC leadership indulges in childish acts which cannot be accepted as the line of a political party. |
