| Coca Cola to isntall 50 rain water harvesting structures | | |
New Delhi, February 6, 2007 Coca-Cola India has won the Government of Delhi 's prestigious 'Bhagidari Award' for the fourth consecutive year for its efforts in water conservation and community development. On the occasion, The Company announced its plans to commission 50 new Rainwater Harvesting Structures across the country during the current year taking the total to 320 rainwater harvesting structures by the end of this year. Deepak Jolly, Vice-President, Public Affairs and Communications, Coca-Cola India, received the award on behalf of the Company from the Chief Minister of Delhi, Ms. Sheila Dikshit at the Bhagidari Utsav 2007, New Delhi. On receiving the award, Mr. Deepak Jolly, Vice-President, Public Affairs and Communications, Coca-Cola India, said, "We are honoured to get this award and we are thankful to the government and to the residents of Delhi for giving us an opportunity to partner them in the community development initiatives. The Company is committed to work with stakeholders and communities across India in its bid to contribute to mutual growth and development." The Company also introduced a new, simple yet effective device 'Drip Gauge' at the Bhagidari Utsav in Delhi. Drip Gauge is a device to sensitize people to use water, wisely. The Company will also focus on spreading awareness on water conservation & sustainability through seminars, workshops, local programs and through partnerships with various reputed institutions across the country. These initiatives are in keeping with Coca-Cola India's efforts to increase awareness on waste management and to promote water conservation in the 'Water Year 2007'. In partnership with local communities, NGOs, Central and State Ground Water Boards, the Company has now commissioned 270 RWH structures in 17 states in the country while also rejuvenating traditional water bodies like the 400 year old historical Baawdi- Sarai Baawdi and Kale Hanuman Ki Bawaadi. On World Water day last year, The Company organized JAL TARANG 2006 - a festival that celebrated water & culture. At the event, a painting competition was organized for children on the theme of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recharge of water. From all the entries received 12 best paintings were chosen and made into 'Water Calendar 2007'. This calendar was unveiled recently. In addition, the Company has undertaken many projects in Paper & PET recycling, education, health and disaster relief. The Coca-Cola Company has always placed high value on good citizenship.
