JAMMU, Aug 20 : Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla has said that Government has earmarked Rs. 3.5 crore for digging of deep drill tube well at Government Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, Gangyal, adding that with the commissioning of it, adequate drinking water facilities would be provided to the hospital besides inhabitants of adjoining areas. This was announced by the Minister while addressing a large gathering after paying floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi at a function held at Government Rajiv Gandhi hospital, Gangyal on his 68th birth anniversary, here today. Medical Superintendent Dr. Gurmeet Kour besides medical and para-medical staff members, Congress workers including prominent citizens were present on the occasion. Remembering the great leader, Bhalla said during the regime of Rajiv Gandhi as Prime Minister, he was took various exemplary steps which includes promotion of Information Technology, reducing age limit of voters from 21 to 18 years, strengthening of Panchayati Raj, introducing national policy on education to modernize and expand higher education, founded Jawahar Navodaya Vidayalas for imparting free residential education besides launching of various schemes to upgrade the socio-economic condition of the weaker sections of the society. For renovation of shabby condition wards, the Minister asked the R&B department to start civil work upto Rs. 1 lakh out of HDF and RKS funds.
He said that for upgradation of surgical operation theatres, feeding wards 4 and 6, gynae operation theatres, labour rooms besides street lights, the government has released Rs. 7.39 lakh. Earlier, the Minister visited Makkah, Krayani Talab, Malik Market, Digiana Eidgahs and exchanged Eid-ul-Fitr greetings with Muslim brethren. Extending Eid greetings with Muslim brethren at Makkah Masjid in Bathindi, Bhalla said that this joyous occasion would be a harbinger of communal harmony, brotherhood and amity, which are the hallmark of the State's glorious pluralistic behaviour. He appealed to the people to help the coalition Government in restoring peace and normalcy in the State.
