Kartse-Lhuyang Tsogspa emerges team champion
Traditional Archery Tournament of Ladakh

JAMMU, Aug 20: Kartse-Lhuyang Tsogspa, Chhushpt Chhama lifted the team championship trophy in the Traditional Archery Tournament of Ladakh, organised by Ladakh Traditional Society of Ladakh in association with the help of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, district administration and J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Leh at Shenam Fort Road Archery Field.
Second place went to the team of Gespel Tsogspa Choglamsar while Sport and Cultural Welfare Society, Chhusot remained third. In the individual event, Stanzin Gurmet begged first position while Thinless Angchuk and Padma Thinless secured second and third place respectively.
In all, 16 traditional archery teams, including two from Himachal Pradesh participated in this two-day tournament. The 12-round competition was enjoyed by all participants.
The participating teams were Gespel Tsogspa Choglamsar; Chetsog Phandey Tsogspa Matho; Stansrung Tsogspa Shenam; Thundel Tsogspa Maney Sermo; Lothun Tsogspa Tukcha; Sporting Club Thiksay; Golden Path Society, Phyang; Ladakh Scout Regimental Centre, Leh; Himachal Team A; kunthus Tsogspa, Nimo; Yangtse Yarges Tsogspa; Kartse Luyangs Tsogspa; Skara Team; Sport and Cultural Society, Chhushot and Youth-Wing Welfare Society Basgo.
The competition was witnessed besides others by Chairman, LAHDC, Leh as also Executive Councilor for Tourism and Sport and Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh.
Speaking to the gathering, Chairman thanked the organizers for taking keen interest in promoting the dying sport of Ladakh. He complimented the winners and also appreciated the performance of other participating teams, especially those who came from far off villages.
He announced a cash award of Rs one lakh in favour of the Traditional Archery Society of Ladakh for carry forward the legacy of traditional archery.
In his address the Executive Councilor, Gurmet Dorje appreciated the organizers for the efforts to preserve the traditional archery. He opined that traditional archery has the potential to become a special attraction for the visiting tourists in the summer months and assured all possible help from the Council.
Spal Performing Institute, Leh presented colorful cultural programmes during the day long programme.
