Govt bows before lunatic separatists | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 20: The State Government, under pressure from Separatists, had tried to hide the observations of the Supreme Court on constructing permanent road to Holy Amarnath Cave by stating there is no proposal as yet to construct road there. Two-day after separatists leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and the Kashmir civil society opposed construction of road to Holy cave, Finance Minister AR Rather in a press conference held at Srinagar said there is no such direction from the apex court and these are just rumors. Rather, a seasoned politician, has tried to deliberately ignore the observation of the apex court about not only constructing road but also improving conditions-the absence of which is resulting in death of pilgrims every year. The SC order on July 13 clearly reads: " …. The authorities haven't taken up the effective and appropriate measures to protect lives of pilgrims… this with in the constitutional mandate of Art 21, this Court would have no option but to pass an appropriate order…. All these aspects need to be taken care of the concerned authorities certainly with greater emphasis and they can't escape their obligation of providing minimum facilities including roads an approach towards the holy Cave." This order clearly reads that apex court has given time for the State Government to start process of construction of road falling which the court would issue an order in the effect which the State Government would be forced to follow. It's crystal clear from the above order that road has to be constructed by all accounts if the State Government is not willing on this account. The Government should have in a right manner said that it will follow direction of the Apex court and would not cow down to the diktats of the fringe lunatic elements. But by not taking on these elements by thorns the State Government has not only belittled its own position and on the contrary has given an impression of being un happy with the observation of the court. The separatists have been opposing yatra tooth and nail and its surprisingly getting support of civil society there. The State Government has just one month in hand to take corrective steps before SC pronounces its order and if it's opposed by separatists and lingered by the Government it could have serious repercussions. |
