Huge quantity of food grains destroyed in heavy downpour | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Aug 21: Food grains stocked up inside the CAPD godown in warehouse area of Jammu were destroyed on Tuesday as the authorities failed to prevent entry of free flowing rain water. Percolating roofs and grains stored in open in the old and worn out warehouse building added to the miseries of concerned authorities. According to official sources a large quantity of food grains was destroyed after they were submerged in rain water. The exact details of the damaged food grains could not be ascertained immediately. The CAPD authorities present on the spot made desperate attempts to shift the food grain stocks to safer places but heavy downpour prevented it as well. However despite their hectic efforts a large quantity of food grains bags were seen submerged in the knee deep water. Although CA& PD Minister Qamar Ali Akhnoon and his deputy conducted regular inspection visits to the warehouse godown to take stock of the stock position but the much needed repair work of the godown could not take place in the recent past. And in the absence of due repair works at this godwon, the CAPD department had to pay heavy price in the form of destroyed food grains. |
