Protest against reservation in promotions held | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 21: Up in arms against the move of the Central Government to introduce a bill in the parliament for re-enactment of provision for reservation in the promotions in government services, a massive dharna protest was staged in front of Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha, Parade, Jammu in which members of Brahmin, Rajput, Khatri and Jat communities participated. Addressing the protesters, several speakers said that the provision to have reservations in promotions was stopped by the Supreme Court of India. The speakers described the move as anti-democratic and aimed at to divide the society. They said that there is need of providing reservation in recruitment for poor of upper castes along with SCs but promotions should be only on the basis of seniority, merit and performance in the Government and Semi-government services.The speakers warned all the political parties to desist from such move otherwise it will cause chain reactions all over India. The prominent persons who addressed the protesters include Narayan Singh (President Amar Rajput Sabha) Col. Bahadur Singh, (President Jat Sabha) Purshotam Chander Sharma (Chairman Gramin Brahman Sabha), Kuldeep Sharma (Teacher Association) Rajive Jandial (General Secretary All India Jandial Sabha), Romesh Arora (President Arora Bans Sabha) Surinder Sharma Ex- President Bajrang Dal. |
