Persecuted minorities of Pakistan demanding Indian citizenship | Congress & Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants | | Neha JAMMU, Aug 21: The Islamic State of Pakistani state is not only known across the world as an epicenter of global terrorism, but also for its hostile attitude towards the religious and ethnic minorities, especially Hindu, Sikh and Christian. Even the Shiite Muslims and several other religious sects in Pakistan, including Ahemdias, are victims of Sunni fanaticism and persecution. The only difference in their case is that they, like the Sunni Muslims, also retaliate and avenge their killings and humiliations from time to time. The fact is that there is no love lost between the Sunni Muslims and other Muslim sects in Pakistan. All the Muslim sects in Pakistan are at war with each other. It appears. However, it is the Hindu, Sikh and Christian minorities which have suffered the most at the hands of the Pakistani establishment and certain fundamentalist organizations supported, funded and patronized by it and the Pakistani Army and the dreaded Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI). These minorities have been suffering ever since the creation of Pakistan. Their number has dwindled to a considerable extent over the period. The nature of persecution of these minorities could be determined from the fact that they wish to migrate to India to save their religion, culture, life and dignity. Their daughters are being kidnapped. They are forced to change their religion and marry with their kidnappers. The religious places of these minorities are being attacked and vandalized. They are being forced to give up their religion and embrace the Pakistani state religion. There is coercion of an extreme form. Their houses are attacked. They are being looted and plundered. In fact, they are subjected to all kinds of barbarities and cruelties. Their life has become a veritable hell on earth. Thousands and thousands of Hindus have already given their religion and embraced the State religion to escape persecution and save their lives. But still there are Hindus and Sikhs in Pakistan who are not prepared to renounce their religion and culture. Reports are regularly emanating from Pakistan to the effect that many persecuted Hindus and Sikhs wish to quit their homes and hearths and settle in India they consider safe. Hundreds of them have already come to India as tourists, but they refuse to go back to Pakistan, saying they want New Delhi to grant them asylum or Indian citizenship. Our news channels are conducting debates on them, their miserable plight and on their demands, which are genuine and humane. Unfortunately, New Delhi till date has not indicated its willingness to concede the demands of these Pakistani Hindus and Sikhs. Neither the Home Ministry nor the External Affairs Ministry has come forward to appreciate and address the concerns of these persons, who have been struggling hard to obtain Indian citizenship for months now. Reports from New Delhi suggest that the powers-that-be in New Delhi consider this issue very "sensitive". In reality, these reports suggest that the attitude of the authorities in India towards them is not positive. This constitutes a sad reflection on those controlling the Indian State. Contrast this attitude of the authorities in New Delhi and Assam with their attitude towards the illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and you will find the difference. One will find that the Indian authorities are more than willing to accommodate these illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. In fact, there are elements in the establishment who describe the Bangladeshi influx as a human problem. That's the reason that no step concrete step has been taken to identify the illegal immigrants and deport them to their country. The result has been that more and more Bangladeshis are crossing over to India, thus causing resentment among the locals. It's vote-bank politics which is being given precedence over the larger national interests. The powers-that-be in New Delhi have been bemoaning what has been happening in Assam for the last more than one month, but they have nothing to say about what happened in Mumbai on August 11. On that day, several thousand members of particular community gathered at and near Azad Maidan to protest against the developments in Assam and Myanmar. In the process, they desecrated Amar Jawan Memorial and indulged in arson on a large scale. This protest was in support of the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants as well as "Muslims of Myanmar". Today's massive protest at South Mumbai - Chowpatti area and Azad Maidan organized by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena of Raj Thackeray needs to be viewed in the light of the failure of the Congress to take action against those who indulged in arson and loot and desecrated the Amar Jawan Memorial on August 11. Over 50, 000 people today took part in this protest. The truth, in short, is that the infiltrators from Bangladesh are being welcomed by the Congress-led Governments at the centre and in Assam and those from Pakistan seeking Indian citizenship or asylum are not being considered worthy for the same. |
