9 killed 42 injured in Rajouri accident, 6 shifted to JMC

RAJOURI, Aug 21: In a tragic accident, at least nine people including four women were killed on spot while 42 others sustained injuries some of them critically in a bus accident in border district today afternoon. The dead were handed over to their relatives for last rites while the injured were shifted to district hospital Rajouri for treatment. Among the injured, six persons critically wounded were shifted to Jammu Medical College for advance treatment after the doctors at Rajouri described their condition serious. Police have registered a case in this regard and investigation have begun to ascertain the cause of accident. The bus driver is also among the injured, however, conductor of the passenger bus is reported to have escaped unhurt from the spot .
Eye witnesses said, a mini bus with the capacity of 40 passengers left Rajouri bus stand at about 4 PM on Tuesday overloaded with at least 60 passengers for Mandir Gala on Budhal road. As this ill fated mini bus no JK11-9977 reached near Budhi Morh in Palma area, the driver of the bus failed to control it while negotiating with a curve and bus fell into a deep gorge several hundred feet deep from the road. On seeing the passenger bus rolling down from the road, the nearby villagers rushed to spot, however, nine persons including four women had already died. All those who died on spot have been identified as Subhash Chander resident of Sawari, Nazir Hussain resident of Sawari, Mohammad Ashraf resident of Sawari, Naseem Akhter wife of Mohammad Yousef resident of Tarala, Mohammad Qayoom resident of Palma, Shamim Akhter wife of Anwer Hussain, Danish son of Mohammad Hussain, Khurshied Begum wife of Nissar Ahmed and Rukhsana daughter of Mohammad Iqbal.
The injured were later shifted to district hospital Rajouri. And the six persons critically injured were shifted to Jammu after the local doctors declared their condition critical. The locals have held traffic police responsible for overloading of passenger buses saying that over loading becomes one of the causes of the accidents in this region.
