Youth Cong raises demand for Panchayats empowerment

JAMMU, Aug 22: A rally of Pradesh Youth Congress was held here today to press the demand of powers to Panchayats by bringing 73rd and 74th amendment in the Panchayati Raj Act of Jammu and Kashmir at par with the rest of the country.
Thousands of youth Congress activists assembled at Press Club Jammu at 11 a.m. today and in the shape of rally they passed through Jewel, Gumat Bazar, Raghunath Bazaar, Residency road and reached at DC Office Jammu and submitted a memorandum in which it was demanded that and 73rd and 74th amendment in the Panchayati Raj Act of Jammu and Kashmir should be brought at par with the rest of the country.
Speaking on the occasion Chetan Chauhan said that Panchayats are the basic institutions of democracy and AICC General Secretary Incharge Youth Congress Rahul Gandhi desires to strengthen these institutions in all parts of the Country. Shahnawaz Choudhary in his address asked to Youth Congress activists to go to the people at the grass root level and make them aware about the policies and programmes of the Congress party.
Speaking on the occasion Parnav Shagotra said that a strong Panchayati Raj System was the dream of Late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi who brought 73rd and 74th Amendment in the Panchayati Raj Act through which maximum powers were given to the Panchayats throughout the country. But it was unfortunate that these acts were not broughtin Jammu and Kashmir even today. He demanded that Panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir should be empowered by bringing 73rd and 74th Amendment in the Panchayati Raj Act. He said that Pradesh Youth Congress will continue its stride until the Panchayats in J&K are fully empowered.
Among others who participated in the included Sandeep Sharma, Vivek Gupta, Praveen Singh, Neeraj Kumar, Rahul Sharma, Nirmal Singh, Kripal Singh, Rinku Choudhary, Karam Kumar, Mukash Choudhary, Narinder Singh, Rajinder Singh, Kamaljeet Singh, Charanjit Singh, Rajan Sharma, Vijay Magotra, Khuwant Singh, Shamsher Lal, Ravi Kant, Jatinder Chib, Paramjit Singh, Vinod Kumar, Ranjit Singh and Lucky Singh.
