Court extends remand of IED blast case accused | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Aug 22: A local court here has granted police three months more time to complete the investigation of a case in which alleged militants had planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) inside a Maruti car in Chanpora on the city outskirts in May this year. The court also extended the judicial custody of the accused by 16-days. Principal and Sessions Judge Srinagar, Kaneez Fatima while disposing off the two applications moved by the police prosecutor ordered: "The investigating agency (police) is granted 90 days more time to complete the investigation of the case in hand and the accused are remanded to judicial custody for 16 more days." In the two applications moved before the court the police claimed that the accused persons were the hard core militants and were involved in lethal activities against the state and public. Deputy Superintendent Police (operations) Srinagar, Firoz Yeyha who was present in the court pleaded that police needs some more time to investigate the case. Pertinently, police had claimed that a major tragedy was averted when it detected and later destroyed an IED planted inside a white color Maruti Car near Chanapora Bridge in May this year. |
