8/22/2012 11:55:08 PM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 22: With another police man found ‘deeply' involved in militancy, the Government has some serious thinking to do before it is too late. Earlier, a few secret police men were held for their connections with militancy. Although a senior police officer had dismissed it as a `minor' problem, the new addition in the list cannot be ignored.
The policeman turned militant, according to highly placed sources has confessed to killing of a former Deputy Superintendent last week when he was coming back from the mosque after offering Friday prayers. He has also owned the attack on Law Minister, Ali Mohammad Sagar. Sources said he hurled a grenade towards Civil Secretariat recently. He has also owned a number of other killings.
The police have claimed recovery of three AK-47 rifles and around one thousand rounds of ammunition from his possession. A few grenades have also been recovered. The arrested police man, sources said, was part of an active militant module whose other members are still at large.
Scores of police man have joined militancy in past 23 years. Besides passing on vital information to the militants, they have also planned and executed attacks. The blast at the police headquarters that left the former DGP seriously wounded is one such attack.
There was a time when a police officer led Hizbul Mujahideen's operations. The police also went on strike in early 90s. They also took out a procession and presented a memorandum to the UN Military Observer at Sonawar in the summer capital. The Army had to launch an operation to disarm the agitating policemen.
