Fugitively case: Asstt Jail Supdt, two others suspended for dereliction of duties | | | Sumit Sharma Jammu, Aug 22: Following the escape of under trial particularly an accused in a murder case from a jail in the Kathua District, the officials have put Assistant Jail Superintendent and two others suspended for dereliction of duties. Three jail security staffers identified as Surinder Kumar Assistant Superintendent of Jail, Ganesh Das Chakra Hawaldar and Selection Grade Hawaldar Swarn Singh have been put under suspension for alleged negligence of duty leading into running off by an under trial. Official sources said the accused now an absconder was lodged in Kathua jail in connection with murder of a villager in Bani in 2008, managed to give a slip to jail authorities this morning. Pertinently there are 124 prisoners in the jail and among them 50 are hardcore militants. Jail sources said that fugitive identified as Sohan Singh, was facing trial in a murder case since 1998 and reportedly went missing by jail staff around 7 am. He was detained in District Jail Kathua and was under trial in Case FIR No. 58 of P/S Basohli under sections 302, 201 and 34 RPC. "The 35-year-old prisoner made his escape while the prison premises were being cleaned, sources said. They said that Singh was taken out from his barrack for working and taking benefit of darkness and heavy rains during the wee hours this morning he jumped over the fence and fled away. Meanwhile a manhunt has been launched to nab him, they said. Official sources said that after the incident, DG Prisons, Naveen Aggarwal, DIG CRPF and other senior officials reached the jail to take assessment of the circumstances. Taking serious note of dereliction of duties on the part of jail authorities, Director General of Prisons, Naveen Aggarwal suspended three jail staffers who have been identified as Surinder Kumar Assistant Superintendent of Jail, Ganesh Das Chakra Hawaldar and Selection Grade Hawaldar Swarn Singh for negligence of duty. Aggarwal talking over phone informed that FIR against the incident has been lodged with the concerned police and manhunt has been launched to arrest him. He further said that departmental inquiry has been ordered which is to be conducted by Central Jail Superintendent Rajni Sehgal who will submit the report within 10 days. |
