| HM militant surrenders before Police | | | Srinagar | Feb 6 A militant of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit today surrendered before Handwara Police and his parents during a cordon and search operation launched by Police outside a house in Handwara. According to reports, a HM militant Shabbir Ahmed Bhat alias Imran, code name Junaid, son of Mohammed Abdullah Bhat of Maratgam, Handwara was holed up inside a house at Khan Pulwari Mawal in Handwara, when Handwara Police and CRPF cordoned it off. Fearing collateral damage to the house and individuals, the house owners started weeping and requested the said militant to surrender and at the same time requested Police to save their life and property. On this, Incharge operation DySP P.K.Tikoo giving a chance to the holed up militant asked him to surrender who in turned agreed to surrender. After his personally asking the militant to surrender, the holed up militant demanded that he will surrender only after both his parents were brought to the spot, as per reports. Both the parents of the holed up militant were brought to the spot after which he laid own his arms. One AK-47 and some ammunition were recovered from his possession. According to sources, Shabbir Ahmed had exfiltrated to Pakistan in July 2001 and returned back in May 2006 and was active in the area since then.
