Dy CM for early completion of works

SRINAGAR, Aug 23: Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Tara Chand has directed the officers to accelerate work on the projects started under housing and urban development sector and ensure that projects are completed early.
Deputy Chief Minister was reviewing the current financial year's working plans of the Housing and Urban Development Departments at an officers' meeting held here today.
The meeting was informed that Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has completed 82 works out of proposed 304 works this year while work was full in swing on progress on 47 works. The Corporation has generated revenue of Rs. 9 crore during last fiscal while it is expected to surpass Rs. 10 crore this year. The meeting was told that Rs. 20 crore have been earmarked for improving drainage system in the city during the period.
Mr Tara Chand asked the officers of Srinagar Development Authority to take necessary steps for developing new housing colonies besides speeding up work on the projects identified for setting up of housing colonies in Srinagar city.
It was informed that Rs. 30 crore have been earmarked for development of Rakhi Aaruth colony during current fiscal while 1000 more plots have been fully development for allotment to the displaced dal dwellers. Rs. 210 crore stand expended out of Rs. 299 crore provided by the Central Government for the purpose, it was informed. The meeting was told that Rs. 4.50 crore have been expended by Urban Development Agency Kashmir (UDAK) during last fiscal while 1362 beneficiaries have been sponsored by the agency for imparting computer training apart from bringing 2500 persons under skill development programme.
Principal Secretary Housing and Urban Department, Mr. Suresh Kumar, Vice Chairmen, LAWDA and SDA, Director Urban Local Bodies, Commissioner, SMC Chief Town Planner, MD. Housing Board and CEO, UDAK were present on the occasion.
