| District badminton tourney gets underway | | | early times report
JAMMU, Aug 23: Satyam Raina among 10 young shuttlers today sailed into the next round of the different age categories on the opening day of the 23rd Jammu District Badminton Championship, organised by the Jammu City and District Badminton Association at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here.
Satyam made it a straight set (21-04, 21-08) win against Parthak Gupta in boys' under-17 singles event.
Earlier, the championship was declared open by Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu, Dilbag Singh in a well attended function this afternoon. He interacted with the participants and wished them success in the competition.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Jammu-Kathua range, J P Singh was guest of honour. Among others present were Durga Dass Magotra, Som Raj Gupta (organizing secretary) and Balbir Singh Jamwal as also Sat Pal Sharma and Vikram Jamwal (both table referees).
