SP allegedly intimidates Food Station owner at Rehari, misusing his official position | Police officer denies allegations, terms them baseless | | ET Report Jammu, Aug 23: In an alleged case of a Superintendent of Police (SP) misusing his official position to intimidate his cousin at Rehari here, police have registered a case against the police officer on the direction of Special Municipal Mobile Magistrate. The case was registered against SP (home guards) Vikas Gupta and his father Rajinder Gupta at Bakshi Nagar police station under Sections 426, 440, 447, 452, 503, 506 and 509 of RPC. The court directive came in June last on a petition filed by Tripta Gupta, wife of Rajesh Gupta of Rehari. The family claimed that police had made no headway in the case till date and they continued to live under fear. The SP is Rajesh's next door neighbour. In her complaint to National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Tripta alleged that the SP had been intimidating them as he wanted her husband to close down his food station which was next to his house. She said the food station was their only source of income and it was not possible for them to close it down on the SP's directions. "How can we do so when our food station is not in any way a cause of trouble for the police officer and his family?" she asked. Tripta alleged that the police officer was also taking the assistance of some other Government agencies to harass them. She has also forwarded the copies of her complaint to the Governor, Chief Minister, Minister of State for home, Chief Secretary, DGP, IGP (Jammu zone), DIGP (Jammu range) and other senior civil and police officers. Taking cognizance of the complaint, the NHRC issued a notice to the Secretary of J&K Home department on July 13 last, asking him to file a report in this regard within four weeks. In the complaint, the woman alleged that the SP's PSOs park his official vehicle daily in front of their food station and use unparliamentary language. She alleged that though police had registered a case against the police officer, they were yet to take any action against him and his father. "If police fail to take suitable action against the SP and does not restrict him from harassing them further, they will be forced to take some extreme step," she asserted. It is pertinent to mention here that senior police officers have also recorded Tripta's statement in this regard. When contacted over phone, Vikas, who was bedridden for the past over six months for the treatment of a spinal problem, said Tripta and Rajesh had concealed the facts while filing the complaint against him. He said it was Rajesh who had created problems for them as "he off and on dumps the waste from his food station in front of his house." Vikas also denied the allegation that he was behind any legal action against Rajesh's food station at Rehari. "If Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) sends him a notice for violating municipal laws while constructing his food station, how can I be behind it?" he asked. He said after he recovers, he would be filing a case against Rajesh for his alleged act of filing a wrong case against him. |
