PYC's 'new found tamasha' on 73rd, 74th amendments | Roping in DCs to act as a ‘bridge’ to reach Govt | | Saroj Razdan Jammu, Aug 23: Roping in district administration to reach the Government of which they are a part to impress them upon the need and urgency of implementing 73rd and 74th constitutional amendments in J&K- this is the 'novel strategy' state unit of Youth Congress has adopted lately while using administration as alternative bridge through most convenient and potent weapon of memorandums submitted to Deputy Commissioners, a formal act which is preceded by some token protests in support of the cause. The 'new found tamasha' which commenced over a week ago was seen in Jammu on Wednesday and today in district Budgam which will be followed by Srinagar and Ganderbal districts in coming days. The moot question remains against who Youth Congress is lodging protest or simply agitating on roads and why it has chosen DCs to be medium of flaunting their activities...! The J&K unit of Youth Congress has busied itself in this activity for a cause their parent organization has failed to push through despite being in power in the state. Led by president Shahnawaz Hussain , the senior functionaries of the body who otherwise remain in split groups have been seen converging for this 'show' to present a picture of unity and unanimity. But the show and activity in which the body is concentrating with full strength and energy is not paying any dividends , no matter they too are not concerned with the end results. If sources within the Youth Congress are to be believed , the show stretched across the entire state is proving to be flop one for more than one reason. Sources said the while main motive and intension of the Youth Congress leadership is to show some visible activity and performance on ground to New Delhi for this issue which is core to party ideology on empowerment of Panchayats, in the process it also aims at bringing as many Panches and Sarpanches into the party fold, apparently by trying to show that they are concerned and struggling hard for their cause. "Even after having covered some key districts, the PYC leadership has not been able to rope in or associate these elected representatives with their programme drumbeated loudly in front of the offices of DCs…..", said a senior leader of Pradesh Youth Congress. This is just to show it to New Delhi that they are doing something on the ground level and impress the concerned quarters ….he added. IYC leadership in New Delhi , surprisingly so is also understood to have registered this activity with some praise and in order to give some morale boosting is sending senior leaders to this programme continuing in series this time in Kashmir. In Budgam the strength was supported by Chetan Chohan, Secretary Indian Youth Congress and next week All India president of the Youth Congress is arriving in Srinagar , sources added. The irony however remains that within the PYC some functionaries are questioning the purpose of this show and looking at it as a futile exercise which is only meant to befool the gullible and ignorant representatives. Some of them have even conveyed it to the leadership that if Congress is the major alliance partner why it is not submitting the memorandums and pressing this demand through their own ministers rather than using the 'medium' of DCs. |
