| Thirty female members join BJP | | |
JAMMU FEB 06 Over thirty female members, including some from the Scheduled Caste community, joined the Bhartiya Janta Party at an impressive function held here today at the party headquarters in presence of the Party President Ashok Khajuria. Vice President Suresh Jamwal, General Secretary Shamsher Singh and Mahila Morcha State President Usha Choudhary and SC Morcha President N D Rajwal were also present. Welcoming the new entrants in the party fold, the Party President said that females constitute about 50 per cent of the population of the society but due to indifferent attitude of the successive governments in the State, they have been deprived of their genuine rights. ‘ Female need no introduction as she has proved that she is second to none, provided she is given an opportunity’. Criticizing State Government for not giving benefits of welfare schemes to the deserving scheduled caste, Khajuria said that every member of the community approach him with the complaint that their children are deprived of scholarships and uniforms and added that BJP is committed to get due share of females and SCs at all levels. ‘To achieve this objective, he said, the party would launch a statewide program and demanded filling up of backlog of vacancies meant for the Scheduled Castes. Usha Choudhry disclosed that the BJP Mahila wing would organize a massive rally on February 9 to register protest against price rise and non-availability of ration at the depots and urged the Morcha activists to reach the women folk and get their support for the programs of the party. A party hand out said that Sanika Bano, retired CEO, who also joined BJP Mahila Morcha today said that ‘the world is incomplete without women and urged them to get united for the common cause’. Prominent among those who joined BJP today included Usha Ji, Madhu Vinayak, Sudarshan Mahajan, Ratna Bharti, Rano Devi, Chanchal Devi, Veena , Ambika Bali, Raj Sehgal, Bunty Kumar, Shekhar Kumar, Rajinder Kumar, Indu Sharma and Anju Bala . Athkar farmers’ dharna enters 16th day today DODA, FEB 06—The ongoing dharna of the farmers, whose land was acquired by the government for establishing Bhadarwah University Campus, entered the 16th day here today. The demonstrators shouted anti-government slogans and in favor of their demands. The farmers, under the banner of Athkar Zamindar Committee, strongly criticized the local administration and state government for not fulfilling the single promise made during the acquisition of land at Sungli for the Bhaderwah University Campus. The protestors, led by Arshad Ahmed President of the committee, blamed the state government and local administration for not giving suitable compensation to the farmers and demanded that Rs.15000 per marla, besides a job to one member of the family be provided to those farmers, whose land has been acquired for the campus. Arshad said that the compensation of Rs.5300 per marla announced by the government is not acceptable to the farmers adding that they would fight till their demand for adequate compensation is conceded. The demonstrators included Master Ghansham Singh, Ali Mohammed, Jan Mohammed, Badri Nath and Desh Raj Katal.
