CRPF organizes cricket tournament

anantnag, Aug 24: With an aim to build close and cordial relationship with public, 96 Battalion, CRPF on Thursday organized Shaheed Ashfaq Ullah Khan Memorial T-20 Cricket Tournament-2012 in South Kashmir's Anantnag District in which eight local teams including Khalsa Sports, Seer Eleven, Mattan Sports, Kheribal Sports, Young Kadipora, Mattan Blues, Nanil Sports and Rampora Eleven participated. The tournament was inaugurated today by Onkar Singh Charak, DIGP(Ops) CRPF, Anantnag. The opening ceremony was attended by a number of Senior Officers of CRPF and local administration besides huge gathering of locals.
In his opening address, DIGP (Ops) Anantnag CRPF said that the aim of conducting these events is to find out talented youth in games and sports and it is seen that Kashmiri Youths are doing very well. He also emphasized on the close and cordial relations between public and security forces and assured the public to provide better services and help to those who are poor by enhancing programmes of civic action like sports, medical facilities and distribution of study material etc. from time to time.
Shri H. Singh Kales, Commandant 96 Bn, who made scrupulous efforts to organize this tournament, thanked the distinguished guests, local populace and media persons for their support and encouragement and requested to continue it till conclusion of this tournament.
The opening match was played between Khalsa Sports Mattan and Seer Eleven which was won by Khalsa Sports by 15 runs. Ayaaz Ahmed of Khalsa Sports was adjudged Man of the Match for his haul of 5 wickets. In the other match of the day, Mattan Sports easily beat Kheribal Sports by 9 wickets. Ishtyaq Rasool of Mattan Sports was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant 51 runs and 2 wickets.
