AWWA celebrates Raising Day

UDHAMPUR, Aug 24: Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA), the fountainhead of mass-based socio-economic philanthropy for families of JCOs and Other ranks of the Army, celebrated its 46th raising day at Palampur Military Station today.
Alpana Rakshit, the Convenor Family Welfare Organization (FWO) and First Lady, Dah Division was the chief guest-cum-mentor for the day. The celebration was inaugurated with the traditional AWWA song, representing quintessential inner strength of a woman and was followed by string of events like 'Mehndi', 'Rangoli' and Quiz competitions. A workshop on Stress Management, that featured talk by Nimme Datta, an exhibition by renowned pan-India institutes "Himalayan Research institute of Yoga & Naturopathy" and "Vipassana Meditation Centre" and a road show was also conducted.
Day had opened earlier with a spirited "Run for Fun" event where more than 100 families participated and a eco-conscious generating 'Tree Plantation drive', with the added objective of acting as harbinger for action-packed roll of events that unfolded later in the day. In a watershed movement, a special 'AWWA Award" was introduced and presented, setting the stage for annualisation of this recognition that aims at encouraging and bringing into public contribution of volunteer women.
Event concluded with an inspirational address by Alpana Rakshit, distribution of prizes and a pledge by all to continue labouring, voluntarily and jointly towards achieving the AWWA's noble commitments.
