| Miscreants resort firing in air | | Tension grips Christian colony over encroachment of graveyard land | | JAMMU FEB-06 Tension gripped Christian colony here today when two different groups started pelting stones on each other resulting into injuries to four persons. The dispute arose when some people of the Christian community claimed that a particular community has encroached upon the land in their graveyard. Following stone pelting the movement of traffic remained paralyzed for few hours. According to eye- witnesses, some miscreants also opened firing in the air causing panic in the area. Sohan Lal head priest, CIN church said that Deputy Commissioner, Jammu had earlier removed the encroachment on the said land in 2002 but some elements again encroached upon the land, which led to the dispute between the two communities. The reports said the police, who pacified both the groups, brought the situation under control. Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu Mukesh Singh who also visited the spot announced formation of 8-member committee, four each from both the communities, to look into the matter so that the issue is sorted out once for all. However, he made it clear, that the committee would be constituted after conclusion of the ensuing Budget Session. He has also made an appeal to members of the both the communities not to fall pray to the machinations of the vested interests, which are out to foment trouble in otherwise peace city of temples.
