Better health care Govt's priority: Dy CM | Inaugurates NRHM Sammelan | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 25 : Tagging health sector as priority area, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said the prestigious National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) aims to upgrade health infrastructure and extend health care facilities to every nook and corner of the State. He said the Union Health Ministry under the able leadership of Ghulam Nabi Azad is extending wholehearted support to the State government for addressing the requirements of health care sector. "On one hand we are extending health care facilities to those living in rural areas under NRHM and on the other, work on mega development projects in health sector have been launched to upgrade exiting medical institutes to the level of AIIMS, so that best medical care can be provided within the state only', he added. Tara Chand was addressing a gathering at the inauguration of NRHM Sammelan at Chak Malal, here today. The Sammelan was organized by BMO, Pallanwala and attended by Sarpanchs, Panchs and ASHA workers of the area. CMO, Jammu Dr. Javed Akhtar Chib, NRHM Coordinator Dr. Harjeet Rai and working President, Suram Singh were prominent among those who participated in the Sammelan. Complementing ASHA workers for their role, the Deputy Chief Minister said the onus of making the mission a real success lies on these workers and efforts needs to be redoubled to achieve the target of extending basic health care facilities to those living in far-flung and rural areas. Mass awareness programme has to be launched among the people so that incentives of the mission reach to the target population, he added. He said the government aims to universalize health care facilities, so that required facilities are available to the people right at their door step, adding that scope of work for ASHA workers has been extended to include reporting of birth, death and epidemics in the area and incentives have also been increased accordingly. On the occasion outstanding ASHA worker Smt. Sushma Devi from Selan Wali, Thanger was awarded for doing commendable work under NRHM. Giving details of facilities created under the mission, Tara Chand said an emergency ambulance service has been established and anybody can call 102 to avail the benefit, adding that once the call is registered using GPS the nearest available ambulance would rush to the spot. He said pregnant ladies, infants and accidental cases would be extended the service free of cost and for rest, charges at the rate of Rs 8 per km would be charged. |
