JKDF courts arrest for unemployment allowance in "Jail Bharo Andolan" | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 25: Nearly 5000 people today courted arrest in support of JKDF's call for "Jail Bharo" to persuade the Government to immediately announce the unemployment allowance for youth of the State till they are absorbed in jobs. Earlier today thousands of people including women holding JKDF flags and placards in their hands today gathered at Indira Chowk amid the chanting of slogans "Jai Jammu, Jai Jammu Kashmir" to participate in "Jail Bharo Andolan" and to express the concern about the Government apathy towards youth of State particularly Jammu region. Even police contingent who reached at the venue with only two buses failed to accommodate the agitators and instead used b lathicharge to disperse the peaceful agitators who came to court arrests. JKDF activists have to arrange their own vehicles and some of them marched by foot to reach the police station to court arrests. MLA Jammu West Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, MLA Domana Bharat Bhushan and MLA Basohli Jagdish Sapolia were also present at the vanue to support the demand of Jammu youth for unemployment allowance. JKDF Chairman Anil Gupta was first to offer arrest followed by Senior Party leaders Surinder Sharma, Satpal Grover, Murari Lal, Ram Kumar, Krishan Lal and Arun Khanna. While speaking to media after courting arrest, Chairman JKDF Anil Gupta said, "Police failed to accommodate peaceful agitators as they have no sufficient vehicles and instead resorted to oppression by using lathicharge which is condemnable." He further said, "Successive Governments led by Kashmir based politicians has deliberately turning a deaf ear towards the people of Jammu. We have left with no other option but to court arrests in favour of our demand. Unemployment is growing with every day. On the other hand militants and stone pelters are being given jobs in the name of rehabilitation, but the nationalist youth of Jammu are being deprived of their rights and equal opportunities. JKDF is determined to take this struggle for youth to its logical end." |
