Seeks cancellation of land allotment to former Congress Minister
Gadigarh Panchayat shows teeth

ET Report
JAMMU, Aug 25: Unmindful of the reluctance of the Government to empower Panchayats, the Gadigarh Panchayat showed its teeth today and demanded cancellation of allotment of Kah Chari land to Bhagat Chajju Ram Trust headed by former Congress Minister Suman Lata Bhagat.
A delegation of Panches and prominent citizens of the area led by Sarpanch Vijay Kumar Sharma today called on the Divisional Ccommissioner and presented a memorandum seeking cancellation of allotment of the aforementioned land. The Divisional Commissioner while giving the delegation a patient hearing assured them of proper action.
Earlier, Gadhi Garh Panchayat unanimously passed a resolution to construct a Children park named as Shaheed Balwinder Singh Children Park on the said piece of land. The Panchayat also decided not to allow any outsider to grab this land which has been kept vacant from decades with an aim to use this land for common purpose of the society.
But it is unfortunate that this piece of land measuring 7 kanals and 9 marlas which was earlier used as Kah Charai by villagers was transferred to JDA by the Revenue Department which further allotted this land to former Congress Minister on very nominal cost while its actual cost goes in crores. It is pertinent to mention here that former Congress Minister Suman Lata's name also figured in the list of politicians accused of land grab. A case to this effect is under consideration of State Accountability Commission.
The Panchayat members had staged a dharna on May 28 last year to prevent allotment of the land to Bhagat. They also blocked Jammu-R.S. Pura road to invite the attention of the authorities. The then ACR Jammu pacified the protesters and assured them appropriate action. However, some goons tried to grab the land time and again.
The Panchayat members have warned against the grab. "In case of any clash over the issue, the responsibility will lie on the administration", said Sarpanch.
Prominent among those who were part of deputation include Kewal Krishan, Naib Sarpanch, Ravinder Singh Raina, Suneeta Sharma, Santosh Sharma, Suneeta Kumari, Kamlesh Sharma, Narinder Sharma, Sudershan Sharma all Panches and Nettu Sharma, Vikas Sharma, Deepu Sharma, Retd ZEO Khem Raj Khajuria, P.L. Sharma, S. Jagbir Singh and Vikas Bhargava.
