Retired IGP to be questioned in Police-Militant nexus | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 26: A retired inspector general of police (IGP) is likely to be questioned in connection with the recently exposed militant-police nexus. Authoritative sources have confirmed to ET that a recently retired IGP is likely to be questioned by investigators who are probing the militant-police nexus that was exposed recently after J&K police busted a two-member terror sub-module of Hizbul Mujahideen which had carried out 18 terror attacks in Srinagar city. The same sub-module had carried out three assassinations including that of a retired Dy.SP, a serving ASI and a worker of the NC besides a number of attacks including the one on the State Rural development Minister, Ali Mohammad Sagar, a religious leader and others. The kingpin of the terror HM sub-module was a local policeman Abdul Rashid Shigan alias Omer Mukhtar alias Maulvi belonging to Batamaloo area of Srinagar. The other member of the sub-module was Imtiyaz Ahmad Gojri belonging to Tengpora area of Srinagar. The HM sub-module carried out terror attacks in Srinagar city during the last two years including the one on CRPF personnel in Rainawari area of the city without any assistance from across the border. Interrogation of Shigan who was recruited as a constable in police in 1998 and later dismissed has revealed that in 2002 Shigan obtained a court order for reinstatement and the then deputy inspector general (DIG) armed Kashmir issued reinstatement orders of the dismissed constable without exploring the provision for filing an appeal against the court order. The decision taken by the then DIG armed Kashmir who was later promoted as IGP assumes serious significance according to highly placed sources because the DIG concerned was in knowledge of the fact that Shigan had earlier been detained under PSA for subversive activities. Shigan's interrogation has confirmed that he masterminded 18 terror attacks in the city during the last 18 months. Authoritative sources have confirmed to ET that the decision to bring in the retired IGP for questioning was cleared at the highest level after investigators submitted a report to their seniors that the haste exhibited by the then DIG armed Kashmir in reinstating the dismissed constable needed to be probed further. |
