DDC sets deadline for regularization of unregistered power consumers

UDHAMPUR, Aug 27: To chalk out strategy for checking power pilferage and to review revenue realization on account of power supply in District Udhampur, District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, P. K. Pole convened a meeting of engineers of Power Development Department here today.
Superintendent of Police, Ashkor Wani, Superintend Engineer, EM&RE, Romesh Kumar, Executive Engineers of EM&RE, Karam Chand , Engineers of Sub Transmission Division, Transmission & Distribution and other concerned officials of the department attended the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC underscored the need to improve the power tariff collections efficiency to increase the level of revenue collection. He also called for month wise monitoring of revenue realization adding that the engineers of the PDD have to play a role of energy managers to strike a balance between energy supply and revenue realization.
He said revenue realization should be proportionate to energy supply adding that it was imperative for economic stability of the state.
Mr. Pole categorically asked the employees of PDD which mainly include Junior Engineers, Meter Readers and linemen to keep a strict vigil on the power scenario in their respective jurisdiction. "Strict action would be initiated against consumers for using power illegally and employees for their indulgence in the matter", the DDC said. He also set a deadline for regularization of 10,000 unregistered power connections in the district by the end of October 2012
SSP while addressing the meeting assured full cooperation from the police department for revenue realization and checking power pilferage. He stressed the need for conducting random inspections in different areas with the assistance of police and M&RE staff. He also asked the concerned officers of the department to furnish a list of chronic defaulters to initiate appropriate action against them under rules.
It was informed that 4000 unregistered consumers have been regularized and brought under the ambit of billing thereby regularization of 1.4 MW load in the system. Under VLDS Scheme 6787.509 KW of load have been declared by the consumers and got registered and an amount of Rs. 2172.12 Lacs have been realized during ending July 2012
Threadbare discussions were also held over the various issues including fixation of time period for disclosure of load by government departments, providing switches to newly street light and lamps provided at poles, submission of bills for those areas which are not in the jurisdiction of Municipal Council etc.
