Redundant Geelani inciting religious, regional tension | | | Early Times Report jammu, Aug 27: Separatists hadline leader Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani is using Amarnath yatra to incite religious and regional tension at a time when ordinary Kashmiri has had good tourist season which has left him politically redundant. In highly inflammatory and communal remark Geelani had said India is using Yatra to strengthen its 'occupation' over Kashmir. Not only this he had even gone to extent of suggesting that Yatra is being used to lift the moral of the Army. Geelani feels that there is definite ploy behind the increase in yatra from just few thousands in early '90s to about 6-lakh this year. Typical of parochial and provincial mindset this statement is not only devoid of logic but also reflect how trapped is his mindset. Geelani has either ignored or just doesn't know that through out the country there has been sudden influx of religious tourism. Spiritualism has become new flavor and people are lapping for it. In our own State, in early 80's, before then Jagmohan established Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, about lakh people would visit the shrine. In a period of about 25-yr the figure has crossed to one -crore mark. Even off late when only hundreds of people would visit Machil yatra, now thousands are going there. There has been spurt in yatras in entire erstwhile Doda district, it's being promoted by tourism department and locals are benefiting from it. Now on these yatra if fundamentalists and Indian Government is asking them to come to Jammu province. If Geelani feels that's the case then why he doesn't speak against Vaishno Devi yatra after all it's also being performed in Jammu region which is part of the J&K. The fact remains that Geelani and his ilks doesn't want yatris to cross over Jawahar tunnel. They may welcome people as tourists but not as yatris. It speaks how toxic Kashmiri leadership has grown in an atmosphere where there is no space for religious plurality. It speaks about how a mind develops pervert feelings if one interacts in the absence of cross-culture. Geelani had his ilks must realize that such contradictory and communal approach has the potential of backfiring and he must realize about 20-crore Muslims live in India as compared to just about 6-0-lakh in J&K-read mostly in Kashmir- and he must not act in a manner which could affect communal harmony in other parts of the country. |
