Manjit appeals for adequate supply of fertilizers | Highlights farmers' demands | | Early Times Report Vijaypur, Aug 28: Hundreds of farmers today participated in a function organized to remember two villagers who were killed in police firing at Vijaypur in 1991 while demanding adequate power supply in their areas since they were facing shortage of electricity. On the occasion, former minister and senior Congress leader, Manjit Singh was the chief guest in the function organized by the Kissan Union Vijaypur. The function is being organized every year in the town to pay their respect at the memorial of the villagers killed in the police firing. Singh said that the farmers still struggling to get their share for irrigation water supply, electricity and drinking water supply. "The town has been logging behind other areas. The administration has turned deaf ears to the sufferings of the people which are just demands and it should be fulfilled by the administration since the central government through various schemes has pumped huge money for the welfare of the people," Singh said, while expressing concern over the suffering of the people. The senior Congress leader alleged that they have time and again raised the issue of shortage of irrigation water due to which border villages in Vijaypur have been suffering especially the tale end villages. Regarding the fertilizers, he alleged that the farmers have been facing shortage of fertilizers which are not provided in the town. He appealed the concerned department to make arrangement for the fertilizers in Vijaypur so that the poor farmers could take benefit of the facilities which are being provided by the National Conference and Congress coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir. Concerning the Pak firing, the former minister Manjit Singh said addressing the huge gathering that due to heavy firing in the recent past by the Pak Rangers on Indian posts and forward posts has spread fear among the farmers and they avoid going into their fields near the border. Sarpanch Manjeet singh Billa, Balwant Singh Nagra, Bachan Singh ,Gurjeet Singh, Bharat Bushan, Dr. Pankaj Bhagat, Chander Shakhar Sharma, Narinder Choudhary, Swaran Singh , Ex. Capt. Mohan Lal sharma , Tilak Sharma, S.Ghar Singh , Sai Dass Bhagat, Updesh kumar, Ex.Capt. Baljeet Singh Bhatti, Naib Sarpanch Sujjan SIngh, Billu Choudhary were among the prominet who were present there. |
