Saroori 'exonerated' from MBBS exam imposter scam | | | early times report Jammu, Aug 28: Congress leader and former Minister for R&B G M Saroori has been formally given clean chit in the MBBS entrance exam imposter scam, a case which cost him his ministry over a year back. CBI while exonerating him in the case has filed a chargesheet and challan in the matter against a particular roll number in the case . At a time when the allegations of corruption against the Congress ministers are loud in the air, the development of CBI giving clean chit to Saroori in the case certainly comes as a great relief for the party as well as to the former minister himself. The CBI 'assessment' after over a year of proceeding with investigations has not come as surprise as it was already indicated early this year that Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to give clean chit to former Minister for Roads and Buildings besides a senior NC leader and former Minister Rampal whose name too was raked up for alleged use of impersonators for their wards in the medical entrance test last year. Soon after the case came to fore, following uproar at the political level, Saroori had to resign and the case was handed over to CBI for investigation which has since been investigating the case and now over a year after they formally gave clean chit to the minister, saying he is not in person involved in the crime. However, the investigating agency filed a challan in the Court of Judicial Magistrate Jammu under No RC0042010S0009. It goes without saying that Saroori was not in person involved in the scam and it was an imposter sitting against the roll number of his daughter. What turn the further course of investigations take remains to be seen, at this juncture when the talk of cabinet reshuffle is gaining momentum, exonerating Saroori in person from the case assumes a very interesting significance. It also remains to be seen how Congress leadership takes this development in terms of his re induction in the cabinet , anytime reshuffle is effected.Pertienently, the Chief Minister following uproar from opposition in the Assembly had clarified his stance on G.M Saroori and contended that there was a culture in Congress that any case which is investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the leader resigns from whatever posts he holds. The Chief Minister had even contended that if CBI gives clean chit to Saroori he will give back the portfolio of R&B to him. Soon after CBI giving clean chit to Saroori today, Sudhir Sharma, the cousel appearing for Saroori in the court said the ministers stand has been vindicated by the CBI as he has not been found involved in the crime in any way. Meanwhile, when contacted, Saroori said he was being implicated by his detractors and that the truth has finally come out. "I had full faith in God and I am satisfied that the CBI has given me a clean chit", he said. |
