Resurfacing of Talibans add to disturbed security scenario in Pakistan

Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 29: Of late Talibans, operating in Afghanistan and Afghan-Pak border, are getting aggressive resulting in the killing of innocent civilians and the security personnel.
Since the establishment in Islamabad did not listen to Washington's repeated pleas for sustained operations against the Talibans and the Al-Qaeda the security scenario in Pakistan has assumed alarming dimensions which could have its impact on the security situation in India and Afghanistan.
Whether in Afghanistan or in the tribal belts of Pakistan Talibans have started perpetuating brutal laws in the name of Islam. It can happen only in Afghanistan and the tribal areas of Pakistan that Talibans behead those found partying or violating the dress code issued by the terrorists. And the latest nerve racking incident in Afghanistan was in the shape of beheading of 17 people, including three women, on charge of "partying."
Taliban militants, equipped with sophisticated weapons, attacked a check post in Pakistan's lawless tribal belt killing at least nine soldiers and losing 10 of their own men.
Fighting erupted in South Waziristan tribal region after militants attacked the check post at Farhang Baba area, according to reports reaching here from across the LoC.
Nine soldiers were killed and several others injured in the attack.
The security forces launched a counter-attack and killed 10 militants, a security official said. Eight more militants were injured in the clashes. The security forces launched a search operation in the region after repulsing the attack.
Security forces had cleared most of South Waziristan of Taliban militants during a major ground and air offensive in 2009. However, Taliban militants hiding in remote mountainous areas continue to launch attacks on troops.
Earlier , three soldiers and 11 militants were killed in clashes in the Batwar area of Bajaur tribal, security officials said. The fighting occurred after the Army launched an operation to push back Taliban militants who crossed over from Kunar province in Afghanistan on Friday and occupied Batwar village.
Reports said that several soldiers were missing and that troops had arrested eight militants. The fighting in Batwar area has so far claimed 50 lives, including 31 militants, three soldiers and two members of a pro-Government tribal militia.
Though the Pakistani troops launched counter terrorist operations in Waziristan area which was under pressure from Washington. However, later on the suggestion of the Army authorities and the ISI the operations were suspended as part of the ISI move to befriend the fundamentalists and the extremists. This way the current disturbed security scenario in Pakistan is the result of the mistake the Army and the ISI committed by suspending operations against the Talibans which provided an opportunity to the Talibans to fortify their bases in Waziristan and other areas on Pak-Afghan border.
