| Assembly complex at Gandhi Park | | | Jammu, February 6 Minister of State for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Mr. Prem Sagar Aziz said that the state government approved construction of New Legislative Assembly Complex at Gandhi Park Srinagar at a cost of Rs.600 lakhs which got revised in the year 1997, when JKPCC gave cost offer of Rs.2455 lakh. The Minister was replying discussion regarding “the necessity of having a Legislative complex for the State Legislature at Srinagar”. He said till date Rs. 1212.00 lakh have been incurred on it of which Rs.400 lakhs were incurred by PWD and Rs.812 lakhs by JKPCC. He said Legislative complex at Gandhi park could not be completed because of pendency of litigation with regard to acquisition of private land required for the project. Mr. Prem Sagar said that the possibility of renovating/reconstructing Assembly complex at Raj Garh was also explored but was not found feasible in view of heavy traffic jams caused while holding the session of Legislature which in turn causes inconvenience to the public at large. Chairman Legislative Council Mr. Abdul Rashid Dar directed the government for early completion of Legislature complex. Describing the historical importance of old Shergarhi complex Mr. Dar said the new complex should be constructed on the same place. He said by not constructing complex means committing a historical crime and people of state would never forgive us for it, he added. Mr. Prem said that Finance Minister has informed Legislative Assembly that complex would be build at Gandhi park and steps have been taken to settle the case outside the court by negociation. Mr. Ashok Kumar Sharma, Mr. P. Namgyal, Mr. Bilal Ahmad Khan Lodhi, Mr. S. Arvinder Singh, Mr. B. A. Naaz, Mr. Lal Mohammad Sabir, Mr. A. R. Tukroo, Prof. Bhim Singh and Mrs. Farida Mir participated in the discussion.
