ICCR, Jammu showcases Dogri 'Bhakh' in Horizon Series-III | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 30 : The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, under its Horizon Series, showcased 'Bhakh'- the rarest and unique singing tradition of Dogri music at the Auditorium of Red Cross Bhawan, Kachi Chawni, Jammu. The legendary singers of Bhakh, Krishna Kumari and Praduman Singh featured in this programme who were accompanied by Ravi Sharma on Harmonium, Rakesh Anand on flute and Vijay Anand on rhythm. Balwant Thakur the Regional Director of ICCR in his welcome address dwelt in detail about the activities of ICCR and said that the prime mandate of the council is to bring nations together through cultural initiatives and for that ICCR sponsors Indian cultural troupes, scholars abroad and brings the best of the International performances to India. Today's programme started with a duet 'Keh Kish Khandey Mere Ram Te Laxman'- a Dogri Bhajan inspired by Bhakh style of singing. The programme suddenly enlivened when they started their popular number 'Suchi Bi Dinna Goriye, Puri Bi Dinna, Mere Kanne Chit Layan', undoubtly this Bhakh number by Praduman Singh and Krishna Kumari has become the ultimate identity of Dogras. Though the Bhakh is sung without the accompaniment of any instrument and that is perhaps its beauty and unique identity but in the instant case both have given a new contemporary dimension to Bhakh by introducing musical instruments like flute and rhythm with it. Rakesh Anand with his unparallel hold over the Pahari style of playing flute took their singing to the ultimate heights. During the programme on popular demand both presented their solos as well and Pradunan Singh's 'Randmarunda Phire Mera Billa' brought lot of humour to the programme. One of the added feature of the programme was the professional presentations done by yet another brand name of anchoring Mr. Ravi Kant Prominent among others who attended the function Pundalik N.
