8/30/2012 10:34:55 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 30 : Apart from carrying out much needed promotion of basic infrastructure in various jails in Jammu and Kashmir the Government has earmarked severel crores of rupees on building new jails in those districts which do not have the facility for loddging criminals ,terrorists etc. The idea behind setting up jails in all the eight new districts is to enable the police to avoid any mishap in which the detaineeor a criminal managed to escape while being produced in a court in another district.
The Government wants to save time while fulfilling the legal provision of producing an arrested person before the court within 24
hours. The Government plans to introduce open jail system. And in order In to develop sense of confidence, the Jammu and Kashmir Prisons Department is soon going to introduce 'Open Jail' system for inmates getting released after completing their punishment. "As an inmate is not immediately prepared to get adjusted in the society after being released from a jail after a gap of long years, the 'open jail' system will give him a new life," according to the jail authorities.
The new system will help the prisoner to completely understand the lifestyle and way of living before he will be set free.
"By spending some time with his family members, relatives and friends in 'open jail', he will not feel hesitant of joining them after being released from the confinement," an official said.
However, for those involved in small offences some other alternatives were being looked into.
