Interlocutors' fresh meetings drawing flak | 'Mistrust growing among mainstream politicians too.....' | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 30: Amid a controversy over Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's statements on visit of interlocutors Prof Radha Kumar and Dileep Padgaonkar to state, the latter are drawing flak from the mainstream politicians of Kashmir vis-a-vis their bid to have assessment and feedback on the report they submitted few months back. Former minister and president of PDF Hakim Mohammad Yaseen during his hour long meeting with the duo expressed deep regret over what he alleged that deliberate attempt being made by New Delhi to keep the issues hanging and enveloped in air of confusion as a result of which even the mainstream politicians are gradually losing faith in commitments made from time to time. "The way things have been happening and issues being addressed, nothing is going to be achieved …….it is just a pretentious exercise for nothing concrete has happened on ground on any major issue , not even on those where a consensus is there…", Hakim Yaseen conveyed during interaction with the interlocutors . In order to substantiate his point ,the veteran politician of Kashmir referred to number of attempts made so far intended to address certain vital dimensions of Kashmir issue , which he said have only proved futile and non productive. "Right from Indira-Sheikh Accord to formation of dozens of committees, to PM's working Groups ……none have borne desired results …..even your (interlocutors' ) massive exercise did not prove worthwhile for the report virtually has been thrown into dustbin…", the PDF chief conveyed with regret to interlocutors , adding , 'all this has resulted in growing mistrust among the mainstream politicians who feel they have been taken for a ride'. The separatists ridicule and taunt us(mainstream politicians) for this……..', he observed . He said instead of making fresh committees and reports New Delhi needs to take some concrete and visible steps which would make some difference on the ground. With different statements emanating from different quarters on AFSPA revocation, there is a lot of ambiguity and confusion over the issue despite the fact there is almost consensus in what everyone in Kashmir is asking for……all this adds to suspicion and mistrust among the masses that concerned quarters are not serious and sincere in what they are assuring , the former minister conveyed to interlocutors. Concluding his observations, the PDF president said there was urgent need to address all key issues in right and meaningful perspective, no matter within the parameters of constitution. On the political front he suggested there was need to take separatists on board as far as meaningful dialogue is concerned, he said adding that ongoing Indo-Pak dialogue needed to be continued in right perspective and direction so that it reaches logical conclusion on issues pertaining to Kashmir, with focus on augmenting trade, communication , relaxing visa regime and facilitating people to people contact between the two sides of border. He also conveyed to interlocutors that unemployment continued to be the major challenge in the state and post 200 turmoil, even if the peace has restored it should not be construed that all is well in terms of anger and aspirations of youth. |
