New avatar of former interlocutors? | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 30: The former Central interlocutors are now back in the Valley in their new Avatar. Radha Kumar, one of the former interlocutors, has now told the media that their role as interlocutors might be over but they are now in the Valley as resource persons. It is a well known fact that the report submitted by the three interlocutors to the Union Home Ministry had no takers either in Jammu or the Valley and the Ladakh region of the State. Theirs is a document which has been properly relegated to the realms of history as had been the fate of so many other documents previously prepared on the State of affairs in Jammu and Kashmir. After incurring huge expenses to the exchequer the interlocutors have said so few in so many words and that has made their mission another fiasco with people of the Jammu region, the Valley and the Ladakh region showing little interest in the report about which so much fanfare had been created. The latest visit by the former interlocutors is to meet people they had met before writing their report. It is intended to gather feedback on the report which even the interlocutors know has evinced virtually no interest in the State or outside it. The Central Government and the State Government have not only facilitated their extended and continued visits to the Valley since the announcement of the team, but also walked the extra mile which gave the high profile visits a sort of official legitimacy. It appeared or at least was given to appear that the interlocutors were here to really work out a hard copy containing remedies and solution of the ills concerning the three regions. The result has been that the report might have highlighted the problems but what its offered solutions have done is further confusing the issues. Now that both the mainstream politicians and the separatists besides members of the civil society have expressed their unwillingness to meet the former interlocutors it is better the shutters are finally brought down on this intellectual fiasco that employed a jargon of words spread over so many pages to further confuse an already confused situation. |
