Maan ya na maan, mein tera mehman | Interlocutors- turn- job seekers | | Bashir Assad SRINAGAR, Aug 30: It sounds mock, but true it is, former interlocutors on Jammu and Kashmir Dileep Padgaonkar and Radha Kumar are in the Valley not to seek feedback-as they claim-but seek re-appointment to draw perks and other incentives like all other track-two actors who have amazed wealth over festering wounds of the State Subjects- people of all the three regions. Former interlocutors who arrived here on Wednesday have neither mandate of the Central Government nor the politicians from mainstream and separatist camps have shown any interest in them. It goes Urdu proverbial maan ya na maan mein tera mehman. A senior Cabinet Minister in Omar Abdullah led coalition Government told Early Times that the former interlocutors are desperate in seeking re-appointment as among other things they enjoyed Government protocol during their one year term and have drawn hefty sums from Home Ministry, something they miss today. "They are actually fishing in troubled waters, they have developed huge vested interest, that is the reason they are unnecessarily poking nose in State affairs" the Minister said adding that all those who are officially or unofficially involved in Kashmir have done no good to the Indian State nor to the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. "I fail to understand as why Government of India is investing on people who stand no where" the Minister said. Despite the fact that all the mainstream political parties from all the three regions and the Kashmiri separatists have rejected their recommendations in their own way and style, the former interlocutors are roaming in the Srinagar streets like jokers. On whether he was going to participate in the conference convened by Padgoankar and Kumar today, a senior Kashmir based Journalist turned the exercise as futile. "Bin bulayee mehmanu ke auqat kya, I really feel petty for them" the journalist told Early Times. "They are keeping themselves busy, it hardly makes any difference whether they seek feedback on their report or they have some other interests" senior journalist Masood Hussain told Early Times. Renowned political scientist professor Gul Muhammad Wani while commenting on interlocutors fresh exercise said, "the way one can explain their presence in Kashmir at this point of times is guided by certain considerations. One that they are conscious of the fact that forget Hurriyat even liberal mainstream moderate political opinion has not been appreciative of their efforts" . "Had this been the first report ever produced on the internal dimensions of Jammu and Kashmir problem, many things would have been appreciated by the people but the fact is that there are some very important reports in the public domain. Whether it is NC's autonomy documents, PDP's Self Rule Formula or Sajad Lone's Achievable Nationhood and even Article 370 in its original form along with the Constitution of J&K State and of late Prime Minister's Working Groups on J&K, if you compare all these available documents with interlocutor's report the report appears in poor light. Wani said that people of Jammu and Kashmir have, over the years, developed a critical comparative perspective. "Since their report has gone into the cold store, and they have come to Kashmir as people from Delhi policy group, obviously there is lot of cynicism and disinclination towards their presence in Kashmir On the positive side, Wani said, they are going to make their presence relevant and meaningful if they somehow keep the institution of dialogue visible help in building up a positive opinion on Kashmir in the rest of the country. |
