8/31/2012 10:30:07 PM
Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Aug 31: In the backdrop of brutal beating of a student by nephew of MLA Udhampur, Balwant Singh Mankotia, a massive protest was staged by students against the Principal of Govt. Degree College, Udhampur, for his allegedly biased, pro-Panthers and pro-criminal conduct. The students also shouted loud slogans against MLA Udhampur and National Panthers Students Union (NPSU) and Principal Degree College, Udhampur. It is pertinent to mention here that it has just three days before that a call for College-bandh had been given by NPSU and Gourav Sharma, the victim of brutal attack, had resisted forcible closure of classes in Degree College, Udhampur. It was in the same context that with a view to settling scores with him, he was brutally beaten by a group of students led by Lovedeep Singh, College President of NPSU and nephew of MLA Udhampur. The students have labelled the Principal as pro-Panthers and promoting and projecting activities of Panthers Party in College premises as he enjoys good proximity with Panthers leaders because he had been PRO of former Education Minister and senior Panthers leader, Harshdev Singh. The protest demonstration led by Sumeet Magotra, senior Youth Congress leaders and Shivam Sharma, District President, National Students Union of India, comprising of 700-odd students started from Degree College, Udhampur. The protesting students were joined by students from Happy Model Higher Secondary School and the procession after passing through M.H, Gole Market, Ramnagar Chowk, culminated at Deputy Commissioner's office where Sumeet Magotra, and Shivam Sharma presented the charter of demands to P. K. Pole, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur. They sought immediate attachment of College Principal Nutan Raseutra and strict disciplinary action against him and rustication of Lovedeep Singh, College President of NPSU.
The leaders later on also called on SSP Udhampur and sought making of effective measures for ensuring safety of students in the premises of Degree College, Udhampur.
