SS Kapur emerging 'dark horse' in CVC race | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 31: Former State Chief Secretary SS Kapur is emerging as 'dark horse' in the hot race to fill the coveted post of Chief Vigilance Commissioner in Jammu and Kashmir. The ongoing selection process was put on hold after Governor NN Vohra raised querries over the appointment of former DGP Kuldeep Khoda on the post of CVC. Leader of the Opposition Mehbooba Mufti had submitted a dissent note during the meeting of selection panel following which Governor had returned the file seeking clarification from the state government over allegations leveled by PDP leader against former police chief. PDP leader had dragged his name in the fake encounter case. Though Khoda had earned reprieve after the state High Court had dismissed the writ petition the very next day his name was recommended for the post of CVC but in the last three months the state government could not prepare their defence in support of Kuldeep Khoda. Interestingly, the state government is still reluctant to push his candidature even after clearing his name. Sources in the state government have now revealed that the state government is contemplating revisiting the issue of selection of Chief Vigilance Commissioner and is likely to submit fresh names to the selection panel. According to these sources, the name of former Chief Secretary SS Kapur is doing the rounds for the post of CVC in the corridors of power. After his retirement Kapur stayed here in the state for some months but when the state govt showed reluctance he moved out after packing his bags. Highly placed sources revealed that the state government may submit fresh set of recommendations after holding selection panel meeting to the Governor for clearing the appointment of CVC. A section of senior IAS officers are also lobbying hard for the name of SS Kapur as they are opposed to the idea of having an IPS officer sitting at the helm in the anti graft body. Highly placed sources also revealed that in view of the long delay the state government may approach the opposition party to evolve a consensus over the issue without any further delay. |
