| Chaos of 2010 summer still persists in J&K: PDP | | | early times report
Jammu, Sept 1: The chaos and uncertainty that prevailed during the 2010 summer unrest in Jammu and Kashmir still persists, PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Saturday said and alleged that the credibility of the state government has reached at its lowest ebb.
"Credibility of the government headed by National Conference has reached at its lowest ebb as this regime has lost faith of the people," Sayeed said.
"The situation which was prevailing in the state in 2008 and 2010, still persist because the government has failed to bring transparency and accountability in the system," the former chief minister said.
He was addressing a public meeting in Poonch district, organised to celebrate the foundation day of the party.
"Prevailing chaos and uncertainty in the state are result of the failure of the present regime to connect itself with the common masses.
"From the day one when this government was formed, there is instability and uncertainty in the state," he said.
The chaos in the state is a result of the failure of the system, Sayeed said, while pointing towards the remarks of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), which had pointed out during the summer unrest in 2010 that "trust deficit and governance deficit" were the main reasons of alienation of people.
The CCS had refrained from coming out openly against the state administration, and had said that: "The dialogue can address issues such as the trust deficit and the governance deficit."
"Although the corruption has been sneaked into the government from top to bottom, the anti-graft institutions like State Accountability Commission (SAC) were deliberately made non-functional by the government," he alleged.
To grab the power, NC and Congress have entered into an alliance without forming Common Minimum Programme (CMP) and evolving consensus on vital issues, he claimed.
He said that both the coalition partners were speaking in different tones on many important issues.
Emphasising on the need for solving the Kashmir issue for the lasting peace in the region, he said that dialogue was the only way to solve all problems peacefully.
"Political parties of the country have to realise that solution of Kashmir problem is must for the lasting peace in this region," he said.
He regretted that announcements regarding communication facilities to the traders engaged in cross LoC trade and steps to boost trade still were on papers.
Besides initiating steps to boost cross LoC trade, facility of visiting both sides of LoC should not be confined only to divided families, he said. "There should be free movement of people from both sides of Kashmir," he demanded.
Terming opening of points on LoC as most significant CBM since 1947, Sayeed said that opening of Uri-Muzafferabad and Poonch-Rawlakote roads has liberated people of Jammu and Kashmir from the siege which they had been facing after partition of the country.
